I am so excited to start a new year at Loxley Elementary. We will be offering services designed to reach every student through developmental, preventative education and responsive support. These services include: Classroom guidance: The curriculum used in Baldwin County Schools is TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS produced by the Mendez Foundation. This program is a sequential program that begins in KG and is completed in middle school. Small Group Guidance: Small student groups will be offered as needed for each grade level on a biweekley basis. The groups are approximately 30 minutes. Small student groups are a wonderful way for your child to meet new friends, to gain more self-confidence, and to develop more positive coping skills in a safe, fun setting. Individual Counseling: I will be working with students individually for a number of student issues; such as friendship, difficulty in the classroom/playground/bus, conflict resolution, new student orientation, difficulty coping to school, anger management, etc. Referrals for students to meet with me can be made by classroom teachers or other school staff, by parents, or through students' self referrals. Did you know that our school has a BBSST (Building Based Systems Support Team) that helps teachers with students who may be struggling with academic or behavior issues? The BBSST is composed of an administrator, teachers from various grade levels, the counselor, and the student's teacher. This team works together to review the student's level of achievement and to make suggestions of accommodations that the homeroom teacher may use to help the student to become more successful in school. Please feel free to contact me if you feel your child would benefit from this service. I am looking forward to working with you and your child. The overall goal is to help the students of Loxley Elementary to develop more positive skills that will enable them to become self-directed learners, clear and effective communicators, collaborative workers, creating problem-solvers, and responsible citizens...now, and in the future. If you have any questions or concerns about your child that you would like to discuss, please feel free to call me at 964-7293 Thank you, Joanna Q. Harris
